Scott County School District 2 is proud to announce the “Grand Re-Opening” of historical Charles E. Meyer Gymnasium on Friday, December 16. The Ribbon Cutting will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the gym prior to the Scottsburg Warriors Basketball game against Corydon.
Meyer Gym was built in 1955-56 at a cost of $500,000. It has been the site of countless events over the past 55 years and holds treasured memories for generations of students, athletes, and fans. The possibility of closing the gym was discussed during the past couple of years as a cost cutting measure. A committee was formed to study options and make a decision regarding the future of the old gymnasium. After much research and several public meetings, the Board of School Trustees voted to renovate the current structure. Renovations were completed this fall and the facility now boasts a refurbished floor, improved lighting, and new heating system.
The community is invited and encouraged to attend and be a part of this special evening. “We hope to have many former coaches, players, students and spectators join us for this event.” stated Dr. Philip Deardorff, Superintendent of Scott County School District 2.
