Scott County School District 2 Board of Trustees hired a new school leadership team during board action at the last two board meetings. Dr. Kyle Neukam was hired as Superintendent of Schools on May 19th and Mrs. Tiffany Copple was approved at the June 3 session to serve as the Assistant Superintendent.
Both new leaders bring a breadth of school experiences to the district. Dr. Neukam graduated from Northeast Dubois and earned Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees through Oakland City University. He taught one year in Chandler, AZ and returned to Indiana to teach five years combined in Morristown and Paoli. Neukam served in building administration for 13 years including stints in Paoli and Springs Valley. In the fall of 2024, he joined the SCSD2 team as Assistant Superintendent and was assigned the interim superintendent role in January 2025.
Dr. Neukam’s focus will be on student success, district fiscal matters, and overall district operations. Neukam states, “My goal is to lead in a way that creates the best opportunity for all students to be successful. We’ve come a long way in the last year and I’m thankful for the opportunity to help the district continue its economic recovery. I’m happy to serve this community and excited to partner with Mrs. Copple to lead this district.”
Mrs. Copple is a Scottsburg High School graduate with advanced degrees from IUS and Western Governors University. Copple has served the district in several capacities over her 20-year tenure. She taught elementary for 10 years (JES and SES) and taught middle school for four years. She then served one year in a district role as Director of Instruction, Programming, Assessment, and Data prior to moving to lead Vienna-Finley as the building principal for the last five years.
As Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Copple will oversee academics, programs, professional development, and many more vital components of the educational process. When asked what she’s looking forward to in her new role, she explained, “ I look most forward to passionately supporting and serving alongside the incredible staff of SCSD2 who care deeply about our students. I'm excited to think creatively and tackle challenges together so that every student in D2 has the opportunity to grow, learn, and succeed."
School Board President Mrs. Jennifer Craig shared her perspective on the new hires by stating, “I am excited about the future of our school district with the addition of two outstanding leaders. Their passion and experience bring a fresh energy and vision that will benefit our staff, support our students, and strengthen our entire school community."
Both Neukam and Copple will be busily preparing for the 2025-2026 school year throughout the summer. School starts for SCSD2 students on Wednesday, August 6th. School buildings reopen and are staffed on July 21. During the summer, school questions can be directed to the SCSD2 Central Office at 812-752-8921.
