If you plan to attend Johnson Elementary School, Lexington Elementary School, Scottsburg Elementary School, or Vienna-Finley Elementary, this event is for YOU!
Fall 2024 Kindergarten enrollment is set for April 16th and 17th at Scottsburg Middle School from 4:30-7:00 PM.
Age Eligibility:
Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by Aug 1, 2024.
What to bring to enrollment:
- Your child and a legal parent/guardian!
- Birth certificate
- Immunization records (if available)
- Proof of residence (utility or phone bill, bank statement, rental or mortgage paperwork, or any other documentation of verifiable address)

Q and A
1. What if my child is not five years old by Aug. 1, 2024? Students turning 5 between Aug. 2 and Oct. 1, 2024 may request an Early Enrollment Waiver. Students turning five after Oct. 1, 2024 are not eligible for kindergarten this year. Waiver forms will be available at registration or they can be mailed if you call the SCSD2 Central Office at 812-752-8946. It is recommended that parents seeking a waiver also enroll in PreK as a back-up plan. If a child is selected for early enrollment consideration, assessments will be conducted in June.
2. What if I cannot attend Kindergarten enrollment? Contact your building administrator after April 17 to get registration details.
3. Why do we need proof of residence? The Indiana Department of Education requires schools to keep documentation of legal residence. The documentation you supply will be scanned into Harmony. You will not need to verify your residence again unless you move.
4. What schools can my child attend? Full-day kindergarten is offered at all four of our elementary schools. Initial enrollment will be limited to schools of residence (based on verified home address). Those hoping to attend a school outside their attendance zone may submit an SCSD2 elementary transfer request which will be available at enrollment. Requests will be considered and parents will receive transfer status updates the first week of June and again on July 29, 2024 (after resident zone registration has been completed). This process is also in place for students currently living outside of the SCSD2 attendance boundary.
5. What are the kindergarten enrollment costs? As of the fall of 2023, textbook fees are paid by taxpayers (student families are no longer charged). Student supply lists will be published by the end of this school year. Meal assistance programs are in place and can be accessed at fall registration.
