Homelessness Support

SCSD2 is compliant with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and works with children and families who are experiencing homelessness. The goal of this federal act is to ensure that students experiencing homelessness have the same learning opportunities as those afforded housed students.

Homelessness is defined as lacking fixed, regular, and adequate housing. Homelessness takes many forms including

  • doubling up (living with a friend or relative due to financial hardship),
  • living in a motel, hotel, or shelter, or
  • living in a location not designed for housing (park, car, campground, tent, etc.)

If you are in a housing transition or would like more information about McKinney-Vento or SCSD2 supports, contact Kristin Nass, SCSD2 Director of Grants and Programs, at 812-752-8946 or knass@scsd2.k12.in.us. The office is located at 375 East McClain Avenue, Scottsburg, IN 47170.
